"H" CORPORATE R&D CENTER
The project requires research and development center as well as new headquarter building since six affiliates under Hyundai were merged into brand-new company, Hyundai Heavy Industries Group. This project will proceed in two phased developments. Once one building is constructed, people will be able to use the building, and a few years later the other building will be constructed. Thus, how to divide the site area for the first and second phases and how to arrange each building’s location are important issue. The ratio of site area for the first phase to the second phase is six to four, which is the optimal digit to maximize profit and efficiency of the project. The building in the first phase will be closer to Geyongbu Highway to stand out as a landmark, and the second phased building is to be built with considering view, natural lighting, and circulations for the users.
There are three platforms that enable this building to function as both research and development center and open-gathering spaces where diverse employees in different departments are able to share their ideas and catch up new trends in each field. First, the lowest platform including lobby is called “Challenger’s Platform” that consists of museum, convention, reception lounge, day care, fitness center and is mostly open to local people and external coordinators. Secondly, “Frontier’s Platform” is located in the middle of the building that is composed of different meeting spaces and creative lounges with diverse business concepts. Lastly, upper platform is “Leader’s Platform” where there are diverse conference rooms for executives, CEOs, and VIP. These three platforms are interconnected by “Green Core” and also made workspaces intertwined.
For the façade, in order to emphasize the three platforms, different fin module from the other typical office floors was applied to the three parts. The depth and width of the fins are optimized to adjust external radiation and interior daylighting. The material is to be ceramic panel which is not only the most economical one for this project, but also create the same effect with steels which remind the heavy industrial image of the company.
