Los Angeles is one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the United States, with Koreatown standing out as its largest Korean community and an important cultural and historical hub. Located in the heart of this neighborhood, the new Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles is conceived as more than an administrative facility—it is envisioned as a symbolic gateway connecting Korea and the United States. The design draws on the nostalgic image of Korea preserved in the memories of immigrants, using traditional Korean architectural elements such as hanok-inspired materials, color palettes, window patterns, gardens, and spatial flow to evoke a welcoming and authentic sense of home.

As a Korean space within the United States, the new consulate will function as a central gathering point for overseas Koreans, supporting cultural exchange and community engagement. It aims to strengthen ties within the Korean community while also fostering meaningful connections with the broader American public. By providing a place that is both distinctly Korean and open to its urban context, the consulate will serve as a foundation for dialogue, understanding, and harmony between Korea and the United States.
